Red, Splotchy Face? What You Can Do To Help

Posted on: 19 July 2021

Red, splotchy skin on your face may leave you wanting to cover up your skin with makeup, or it may make you not want to go out at all. If your skin is splotchy and red in some areas of your face, such as on your forehead, chin, or cheeks, it could be caused by a skin condition. There may be things you can do that can help improve your skin tone. If you have tried other things before and haven't had any success, get to the dermatologist for help to clear up your skin. Read on for a few things you can try to improve your skin tone.

Wash Your Pillow

If you're waking up with a red and splotchy face, you may need to wash your pillow, or you should change your pillowcase to one that is made of cotton. Avoid fabrics that may be causing irritation. Wash your pillow with a detergent that is hypo-allergenic and doesn't have any dyes or fragrances. Wash your pillow and pillowcase at least once per week.

Don't Sleep In Makeup

If you're sleeping in makeup, it's going to leave oils on your pillow, and it's going to allow those same oils to settle into your pores and give you redness, as well as acne. Wash your face before you go to bed at night and clean your skin with a gentle cleanser that doesn't dry out your skin. After washing your face, use a toner to help even out your skin tone and texture, then apply a thin moisturizer to your skin as well.

Watch Your Triggers

The things you eat may be causing the redness on your skin. Watch what you eat when you have this redness on your skin, especially if it isn't there all of the time. If you drink wine at night and then wake up to redness, it may be the wine causing this to occur. If you are eating greasy or sugary foods and end up with a splotchy face, skip these foods to improve your skin. Keep an eye on what you are eating and what triggers the redness to occur. It could also be something you are using on your skin, such as sunscreen or the new sunglasses you just purchased. Watch for what triggers the redness and splotchy spots on your face and adjust accordingly.

If you have redness or splotchy marks on your skin, there may be changes you can make to help clear up your skin tone. Talk to your dermatologist about what other causes may give you this redness and what else you can do about it.
